DISTILLED SUMMARY
Connecting NotebookLM and Claude Cowork
Source: YouTube tutorial transcript • Topic: AI workflow automation
What This Is
A free, downloadable skill for Claude Cowork that automates NotebookLM through browser
automation via the Claude Chrome extension. It creates a pipeline where Claude controls
NotebookLM in the browser — creating notebooks, adding sources, and generating artifacts
(slide decks, mind maps, audio overviews, infographics) — without requiring Claude Code,
terminal access, or any unofficial API.
Setup
Download the skill and upload it in Claude Cowork under Customize → Skills. Install the
Claude Chrome extension and log in. In Settings → Claude in Chrome, add google.com and
notebooklm.google.com as allowed sites (no https:// prefix, no trailing slash). That is
the only permission required.
Key Use Cases
Automated slide decks: Attach a script to a Claude Cowork task; Claude opens a designated
NotebookLM notebook, replaces old sources with the new script, and generates branded
slides from a detailed prompt.
Scheduled research: A weekly scheduled task searches for news on a topic and adds URLs
as sources to a NotebookLM notebook, keeping it perpetually current.

Daily podcast briefing: Claude compiles a morning report from web research, Gmail, and
calendar, sends it to NotebookLM for audio overview generation, and a third-party extension
(Cortex) pushes the audio to a podcast feed for automatic phone download.
Efficiency: Each run uses roughly 2% of Max 100 plan usage. Use Sonnet rather than
Opus. Configure the skill to not wait for NotebookLM generations to finish. For
repetitive tasks, create specialty skills with direct notebook links and specific
instructions to reduce cost further.
